To plan or not to plan…travel addition

There are two types of traveller, those who like to have everything planned out for them in advance with little left to surprise and those who like to wing it. I’ve travelled in both styles and both are great but there are different things you need to be ready for with each. Travel Saga 2016

With only a month left until summer break I have been busy planning my Summer Saga. During this round of summer travel, I should be entering into countries 29 and my goal meeting 30. That means that the goal will have to change. One hundred by fifty seems doable. I have a few firm plans for this summer. First, I fly to Macedonia and have booked 2 nights at a hostel in Skopje. Then I have three weeks of travel before I fly to London to meet my mom, dad, grandma, and a family friend. The 5 of us will travel to Northern Ireland and rent a car taking us…

    A Travel Companion

As I approach the end of my challenge (I am nearing both 30 countries and my 30th birthday) I have travelled many ways. From different transportation styles to styles of accommodation. From travel in groups to solo travel, I have been lucky enough to experience many things. In my travels, I have travelled with tour groups. I did this in Egypt and enjoyed it. I met a lot of really great people and my transportation and accommodation were arranged. In a country as large as Egypt this a great because we had to take buses to most places. It was nice to have a private bus. I also chose to…

    Trouble in Thailand

My chance encounter took place in Bangkok airport in August of 2009, when I was 22. I finished working on an Archaeological dig at Scladina Cave (website is in French) and was headed off to Thailand to meet my best friend. She was living and working in Japan and I thought Thailand was a good compromise on flight times for both of us. She would have to return to Japan and I would have to return to Europe for another dig. We had a great time in Thailand and when it was time to leave we packed our bags. Her flight was a few hours before mine. I wanted to…

    Stroll

At my place of work, we are bussed to and from work. It picks up from the apartment at 6 am and departs the school at 3:10 pm. This means that for those of us that tutor after school we take a taxi back home. Usually, I like this. If a friend is tutoring at the same time we will share a taxi, usually to their apartment and I will take a leisurely stroll back to my apartment. The walk is usually about 25-30 minutes. It’s been nice to get out in the afternoon. If I tutor alone I get dropped off at the beach about 15 minutes away from…

    Beaches

I love the beach. I grew up on an island and have always been close to water. When I travel I try to find a nice place with a beach to travel to. The beach reminds me of home, of friends and family. Beaches are a great place for adventure whether cliff jumping, scuba diving, kite surfing, or any other activity, beaches can be a great place for a thrill. Beaches can be a calm place where you go to read a book, watch the waves, or nap in the sun. I have been to some amazing beaches around the world and hope to get a chance to travel to…
