Shared Journeys – Ireland and Scotland
I spent the last two weeks sharing an incredible journey with my family. Unfortunately my brother couldn’t get the time off but mom, dad, grandma, and a family friend shared this two week drive through two beautiful countries. We met in London, their flight landed at 11am(ish) and we checked into the airport hotel. Then it was into town for a day of not knowing where do eat, what to do, or how long things would take.

Travel Simply
Sometimes travel is simple. Sometimes it’s not… The first thing you need to know about simple travel is to pack less. Always pack less, you won’t need half the stuff you think you do and you can buy the small stuff almost anywhere. All Inclusive You can choose a resort area, like Mexico, and stay for a week at an all-inclusive resort. You book a week, a flight, and let them do the rest. The hardest thing to plan is if you do an activity or if you lay on the beach that day. I did this once and it was a great experience. You have a bracelet or other…

Belgium and Archaeology
In 2007 after returning from the Cook Islands I had about 5 days before I took off on my next adventure. I headed to Europe to work on an archaeological dig at Scladina cave in Belgium. I travelled first to London and gave myself a two-day stopover to wander around and be a tourist and see some theatre. Then I flew to Brussels airport. I navigated the train from Brussels to Sclyan the sleepy town where the site is located. When I got off the train I looked at my directions but this was the first time I was travelling by myself and couldn’t help but be worried I would…

Adventures in Istanbul
Getting to Istanbul My adventures in Turkey actually began December 26th in Bulgaria. I tried to catch the train to Istanbul in Veliko Tarnovo. There was something wrong with the tracks and the train had been rerouted. If I wanted to catch it I would have to wait until the next day or find a way to get to Stara Zagora, the next station. Luckily the couple that owned the hostel was willing to drive me if I could pay for gas. So after a late drive through the mountains I caught the overnight train to Istanbul. I was told not to book a bed in a berth but find…

The Midnight Sky in Iceland
Last year I travelled to Iceland with my Mom and Dad during the Summer Solstice. This is the longest day of the year and during this time the sun never sets at Northern Latitudes. This picture was taken just after midnight at Lake Myvatn. It was the lowest the sun ever went. The entire week we were there the sun never set giving us unlimited daylight to drive around and see the amazing things Iceland has to offer. We were lucky to have good weather and a beautiful blue sky.

To plan or not to plan…travel addition
There are two types of traveller, those who like to have everything planned out for them in advance with little left to surprise and those who like to wing it. I’ve travelled in both styles and both are great but there are different things you need to be ready for with each. Travel Saga 2016
With only a month left until summer break I have been busy planning my Summer Saga. During this round of summer travel, I should be entering into countries 29 and my goal meeting 30. That means that the goal will have to change. One hundred by fifty seems doable. I have a few firm plans for this summer. First, I fly to Macedonia and have booked 2 nights at a hostel in Skopje. Then I have three weeks of travel before I fly to London to meet my mom, dad, grandma, and a family friend. The 5 of us will travel to Northern Ireland and rent a car taking us…
