Travel During COVID-19
We are currently living through an unprecedented time. The rise of COVID-19 has shuttered many boarders. For the last few weeks travel during COVID-19 has been all but eliminated, even locally. While it makes me sad I understand. I would never want to risk bringing this virus back to my parents or grandparents.
With summer approaching I have been making travel plans for counties all over the globe. Planning what if I went to east Africa, what if I went to New Zealand. All the while knowing that there is little chance of these and other countries opening up their borders. British Columbia doesn’t plan to open it’s boarder to international travellers until there is a vaccine or an effective treatment of COVID – 19. I assume other places will have similar restrictions.
I have been working from home for 8 weeks now, almost never leaving my house. However, restrictions are beginning to ease here in British Columbia. Some provincial parks are now open for day use. More parks plan to open soon if people can follow social distancing guidelines and maintain a low infection rate. I am lucky to live in a remote area. It is easy to maintain social distancing while we make use of the many local parks.
I may not be able to do any international travel during COVID-19, however; I plan to find the silver lining during this time and explore my local area in a way that I never have before. For so long I have focused on all the amazing, exotic locations that I have never taken the time to find and appreciate some of the wonderful places that exist around me. In the coming weeks and into the summer I plan to explore around my own town on Vancouver Island.
