Fyvie Castle
In my small hometown, many families have distant Scottish ancestry. As far as we know, only one shares their name with a castle. Their name is Fyvie. When they heard that mom was headed to Scotland they told her about this castle they wished to visit because it shares their name, Fyvie Castle. We found it on a map and saw it wasn’t out-of-the-way of our planned route. We decided to stop, take some pictures, and get something branded from the gift shop for them.
Early in the morning, we left Inverness headed for Aberdeen. You turn off the highway and follow what I would call a one-lane, two-way street. Not sure what I mean, check out a bit of us driving down the lane to Fyvie Castle.
Once we arrived on the grounds we parked the car. We were happy to be off the small lane we drove to get to the castle. The 13th-century castle is amazing. They have a nice garden.
The castle is well maintained. It has little hidden secrets to find and photograph.
We had a great time wandering around the grounds. You could also pay to enter the castle as part of a guided tour that runs once an hour. We arrived at the wrong time for the tour and didn’t want to wait for the next one. It leaves us with a reason to return one day.
