Mykonos

We landed at Mykonos airport early in the morning after an early flight from Naples. The bus schedule showed that it would be almost an hour before the next bus came. We went to line up with many of the other passengers from our plane at the taxi stand. The taxis came at a steady pace for a while and then trickled to a slow. Worried about waiting for taxis people began to share.

There was a couple who’s hotel was in the same area of Mykonos Town as Mom and I. The four of us shared a taxi. The hotel was down a short walking path. Geroge was at the front desk when we arrived. Our room was ready so George checked us in.

The room was comfortable. There was a small balcony with a table and chairs. We could sit and see the town, with no ocean view. Next to our room, however, there was a small staircase that led to a rooftop patio. The patio had lounge chairs and sofas. It had an amazing ocean view. Mom and I planned to come back to watch the sunset. After taking in the room and the balcony mom and I headed down the path to the edge of the water.

Chora

Mom and I hadn’t had breakfast before our flight so we found a little restaurant near the water to have lunch at. Finding something that mom would eat was a challenge. She doesn’t live olives, tomatoes, peppers, or much of anything. We finally stopped at a place and mom decided that she would have gyros. She could leave the tomatoes and tzatziki for me to eat.

After eating, we decided to walk along the water and make our way towards the windmills. Along the way, we passed many shops and restaurants. We would stop when something would catch mom’s eye.

We passed whitewashed buildings along the way. The Mykonos town hall had a red roof and door. There was a small church on the water with a blue dome and a matching door and windows. Along the breakwater, a cafe had chairs along the water. A beautiful view but you had to risk getting wet.

Windmills and Wanders

At the beginning of a pedestrian area, there are windmills that used to mill wheat and support the island’s economy. They still bring in a number of tourists. Mom and I stopped to look and take some pictures of our own.

Then we headed into the pedestrian streets and wandered around the shops. There were so many small streets to wander around. Mom was constantly lost but we had a good time wandering around looking in the shops.

We came across a restaurant on the water. They had a very unique guest. Hanging out at the restaurant was a pelican. It didn’t seem to be wary of all the people passing by and some people would stop and take photos with it. Mom and I wanted to find lunch but decided not to eat with the pelican.

In all the winding streets we found a pasta restaurant to stop and have dinner at. They made fresh-made pasta and it was hard to choose only one thing for dinner. The dessert menu was also something that made it hard to choose only one thing.

After dinner, mom and I went back to the hotel. We went up to the roof and settled in to watch the sunset. While we weren’t directly on the water we had an amazing view. Mykonos, like other Greek Islands, has a beautiful sunset.

After the sunset, it was about 9 in the evening. Mom and I decided to lounge around the room and get ready for the next day. We had planned the next day to relax by the pool at the hotel’s sister resort at Platis Yialos.

Taking Time

Petasos’s sister hotel trip can be booked at the front desk. Each morning a shuttle bus comes to pick up people in town and take them to the resort for the day.

At the resort, there are many couches and chairs to lounge on by the pool. There is a bar with overpriced drinks and snacks to enjoy. The esthetic of the hotel was lovely with the whitewashed buildings and the alternating blue and red shutters.

What was disappointing and unexpected was the lack of beach access from the resort. The beach below the pool are was rocky and not a place to swim because it was full of parked yachts.

You could leave the resort and walk a short way to a sandy beach within a small bay. The beach was crowded with tourists and lounge chairs. Mom and I decided to spend our day in the relative quiet of the resort.

At 3 the bus returned to pick up guests and take them back to town. Mom and I went back to the hotel to clean up and then went to walk around Mykonos Town and find a place for dinner.

There was an area of side streets that we hadn’t found the day before. We walked around and did a bit of shopping for friends and family back home. We passed a few places for dinner until we found something mom would eat.

After dinner, we walked around until the sunset and things were getting dark. There was a place to ask about ferry tickets for the next day. We bought two on an early ferry to Naxos and then returned to the hotel. We packed up our bags and went to bed, ready for a new adventure the next day.
