Santorini
There are a few ways to arrive at Santorini. Mom and I took the ferry from Naxos, only an hour or so away by ferry. The fast ferries that run in Greece are very efficient with how they work. When we boarded the ferry in Naxos there were a number of racks, labelled with the ports you could board the boat at. As you walked to the stairs at the back of the boat you left your bag in the correct area to easily find it again. The boat was full of walk-on passengers, so the racks were full. People’s bags took up an entire side of the ferry. The…

Naxos
Leaving Mykonos, mom and I took the ferry to Naxos Island. Waiting for the ferry in Mykonos was organized. There were a few different lines for different ferry companies keeping people organized as boats arrived. There are many ferries each day headed to various locations and the Mykonos terminal is a busy place. Being from an island, Mom and I are very familiar with travel via ferry. BC Ferries could learn a few things from the ferries in Greece. The first thing that amazed mom and me, was how quick the turn around time for the ferries was. At home, ferries can take 20 minutes or more to unload and…

Mykonos
We landed at Mykonos airport early in the morning after an early flight from Naples. The bus schedule showed that it would be almost an hour before the next bus came. We went to line up with many of the other passengers from our plane at the taxi stand. The taxis came at a steady pace for a while and then trickled to a slow. Worried about waiting for taxis people began to share. There was a couple who’s hotel was in the same area of Mykonos Town as Mom and I. The four of us shared a taxi. The hotel was down a short walking path. Geroge was at…

Naples (Airport)
Due to our tour to Mount Vesuvius running late, we arrived in Naples without much time to explore. We got to the train station and looked into taking the Hop-On Hop-Off bus. Unfortunately, the last run was at 5 pm and it was almost 5 pm. Mom and I decided to just head to the hotel and then we could walk around the area and find a place for dinner. Our hotel was a capsule hotel in Naples Airport. It was built in the smaller, secondary terminal. It was a short walk outside to the main terminal. These small capsules are just large enough for a double bed and a…

Mount Vesuvius
After visiting the Pompeii Archaeological Site, mom and I made plans to travel to Mount Vesuvius the next day. We checked in at a tourist shop next to our hotel. The company had openings in the 10 a.m. tour. We booked in with them and went to wander around and find dinner and the train station. On our way back to the hotel we found a nice little cafe to sit and watch the main square of Pompeii while we tried local desserts. In the morning we had breakfast at the hotel and checked out. We were able to leave our bags at the hotel and walk to the meeting…

Pompeii
Mom and I had a flight in the late morning. We left Dubrovnik and headed to Naples. A bus went directly to Pompeii, near the main entrance of the archaeological site. We wanted to find our hotel and drop off our bags before we ventured into the archaeological site. Our hotel was near the back entrance of the site and it took it just over half an hour to walk there and find it. Hot, tired, and cranky we finally reached the hotel. The hotel was tucked behind the main road down a path. We felt happy and lucky to find the hotel. The hotel checked us in quickly and…

Dubrovnik
Mom chose Dubrovnik as a travel destination this summer so we could visit some of the Game of Thrones filming location. Want to know about the Game of Thrones locations? Read about it here. After leaving Rome mom and I landed in Dubrovnik. The airport is quite a ways from the city. There are a number of bus lines that go to Old Town and the Bus Station. The bus dropped everyone near the Ploce Gate of Old Town. Mom and I had a hotel booked just outside the Pile Gate. We walked with our bags through Old Town and down the main street. Mom was able to get her…

Game of Thrones Sites – Dubrovnik
The reason we travelled to Dubrovnik, besides the beauty of the city, was to see Game of Thrones filming locations. I wrote about the rest of our time in Dubrovnik here. Jesuit Staircase The location mom really wanted to see was the Jesuit Staircase, which is the location of the Sept of Baelor. This is also the location of Cercei’s walk of shame. Mom expected the staircase to be much longer and was a little disappointed. I’m glad she didn’t expect the Sept of Baelor to be there. Rector’s Palace The Rector’s Palace is hard to miss, being at the end of the main street. It was built to be…
