    Athens, Greece

I left Kuwait to fly to Bahrain, then from Bahrain to Athens. It was around 6:30 pm when I arrived in the city. Then it was onto the Athens metro to get to Syntagma Square which was the closest place to my hotel. Luckily, my hotel was easy to find. it was a straight shot down one road. I checked into my room and then I hit the road to find dinner and drinks somewhere. Before I get farther though let me tell you about Greece. Don’t listen to the prices in the guide book, they have changed in the few months or year since publishing. You need a special…

    Antelope Canyon

The next morning we didn’t have to be out of the Air B’n’B until 10 a.m., so it was a slow start but once we had breakfast we were on the road again. This time in the direction of Page, Arizona. This is where Antelope Canyon is located. I was so excited to spend time hiking here. The drive takes you almost to the border of Utah. We stopped at Horseshoe Bend. A natural formation caused by the Colorado River eroding away the landscape for millions of years. This feature looks like it could be part of the Grand Canyon but is actually further north than the Grand Canyon. Of…

    Grand Canyon

Earth is older than humans can really grasp. It has been around for billions of years and will remain for billions more. Throughout time species have come and gone, continents have drifted together and apart, landscapes have changed. Some changes are so small we never notice. Some are so large that they leave something, like the Grand Canyon, behind.

    Mokoro Cruising

Cruising A Mokoro is traditionally a dug-out canoe made from a single tree. The availability of inexpensive alternatives means that most tour companies use boats made from plastic or fibreglass. The boat is not the important part, the adventure we had is. After travelling from Khama Rhino Sanctuary, we were picked up from our hotel early in the morning and were taken to the edge of Maun city where we waited for a motorboat to be ready for us. The boat was to take us up the river to the Mokoro pickup site. The trip upriver was beautiful. So far we had seen dry yellow grasses but near the river,…

    Khama Rhino Sanctuary

We arrived in Johannesburg very early after almost 40 hours of travel. Luckily we were met by our tour guide Stephen, from Expelendor Tours, and his wife Emily. They loaded us up into the van and off we went, to find wild rhino. Our goal for the day was to cross the border into Botswana and reach Khama Rhino Sanctuary where we would have our first game drive to encounter animals before staying on the property for the night. The first animal we ran into were Impala. We soon came to learn that these guys are everywhere. We saw these two, a Tsessebe bull and a female. Finding more antelope,…

    Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh is an amazing city, not only does it have modern significance, as the capital of Scotland and the birthplace of Harry Potter, it also has an amazing history everywhere you turn. It was very different from Glasgow. We got a hop-on hop-off bus pass to limit the amount of walking we were doing. The first place we wanted to go to towers over the city. It’s Edinburgh Castle. The castle has stood since at least the 12th century and is one of the most attacked places in the world. The castle stands tall on Castle Rock and is one end of the Royal Mile. Walking the Royal Mile means…

    Fyvie Castle

hav In my small hometown, many families have distant Scottish ancestry. As far as we know, only one shares their name with a castle. Their name is Fyvie. When they heard that mom was headed to Scotland they told her about this castle they wished to visit because it shares their name, Fyvie Castle. We found it on a map and saw it wasn’t out-of-the-way of our planned route. We decided to stop, take some pictures, and get something branded from the gift shop for them. Early in the morning, we left Inverness headed for Aberdeen. You turn off the highway and follow what I would call a one-lane, two-way…

    Inverness

hav We finally arrived in Inverness in the early evening. Most of our day was driving from Glasgow, exploring the various Lochs, villages, and sites along the way. We didn’t have as much time as we wanted in town. There had been may extra stops on the drive up. We used all of our time to go out and explore the city. There were many walking streets and that made it easy to explore. Inverness has its own castle. The castle overlooks the river and is home to the Sheriff’s Court. Inverness has many churches, such as the Ness Bank Church with a recently installed statue out front and the…
